A community-owned chocolate factory in the Andean hill town of Salinas, one of the poorest areas of Ecuador, where subsistence farmers traditionally have scraped a living off the poor soil subsidized by mining salt in appalling conditions. The profits from the factory are all ploughed back into social projects (health, education, water) that are improving the lives of the villagers.
Salinerito chocolate has been exporting to Italian Comercio Solidario market for several years and it is imported to the UK for the first time.
